A bouquet of blueberries and plums jump out of the deep, dark ruby concoction. With gobs of cassis, leather, cedar and slight notes of cigar box as matching flavors. The full body, 2016 Smashberry Red has just the right balance between fruit, earthiness, and tannin that you are looking for.
The grapes arrived cold to the winery to maximize flavor and aromatic compounds achieved by being harvested at night. The grapes were destemmed and gently moved to tank, where they cold soaked for anthocyanin extraction from the grape skins and fermented naturally. Once the sugar content reached the dry level the grapes were gently pressed into vessels. The wine was cellared in
topped up vessels for 12 months before bottling.
